Uralkali manages its business in accordance with a sustainable development strategy. The UN defines sustainable development as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”*.
Uralkali’s business – the production of potash fertiliser - is helping to address a global problem: the world’s growing demand for food, which particularly affects developing countries. Potash fertiliser is an important part of the solution to this problem because it allows agricultural producers to increase crop yield. Therefore, the investment we make in our production capacity and the reliable distribution of our product plays an important role in helping to ensure global food supply.
There are three ways for Uralkali to ensure its sustainability as a business:
– increasing our economic efficiency
– maintaining environmental integrity
– ensuring social justice and stability
We will achieve the first of these through consistent implementation of our growth strategy, which is aimed at raising ore output, increasing the efficiency of our enrichment facilities, and reducing costs throughout the production process.
To achieve the second goal, we follow our own quality assurance and environmental protection policies, which ensure strict compliance with process regulations and environmental laws. These policies also prescribe the use of modern technology to ensure the most efficient usage of natural resources and ongoing monitoring of the company’s production processes.
In order to achieve the third goal, we have set up social development programmes in the regions in which we operate. The goal of these programmes is to improve the quality of our employees’ lives and to benefit local communities overall.
